DIY Vs Arts and Crafts: Which Hobby is For You
The last few months have left us all yearning for something to do. Unless you are one of the unlucky few that have been forced to continue work during these pressing times, it is likely that you have found yourself with a lot of spare time and not much to do within this time. As we have seen online, people have been finding a lot of interesting ways to occupy their time.
There has been a newfound uprising in a lot of hobbies that have been put aside to make room for technology, such as baking and other creative outlets. One of the main hobbies that we have seen a trend in the last year is arts and crafts. Arts and crafts never really disappeared as a beloved hobby, but those of us that put it aside while focusing on work, now have the time to engage in the hobby again.
As well as a rise in the popularity of arts and crafts, you may have also noticed that a lot of people have been turning to DIY. This is mainly because, for the first time in years, people finally have the time to upgrade their homes and other spaces.
If you are someone who has been stuck in this rut of having so much spare time but nothing to occupy it with, you may be wondering whether or not DIY or arts and crafts is the next hobby for you. Both of these hobbies require tools and materials in order to be able to complete them, so it is understandable that you would choose to research your options before settling on one.
Below we have put together some helpful facts about each hobby which will help you decide which one to pursue.
What kind of person are you?
Though these two hobbies may fall under quite similar topics, the two actually differ quite substantially. To decide which of the two hobbies would fit in best with your lifestyle and your hobbies, you must first evaluate what kind of person you are.
If you are thinking about taking up DIY as a hobby, there are a lot of important things that you must keep in mind. For example, DIY projects are no small feat. Once you have started a project, it is unlikely that you will be able to sit down and finish this project within an hour. This is because DIY projects are usually quite substantial and consist of a lot of steps, steps that often can not be carried out consecutively. Because of this, DIY requires a lot of patience. If you are someone that requires fast results in order to gain satisfaction from your hobbies, then DIY definitely isn’t for you.
Much like DIY, arts and crafts also require a lot of patience and dedication of your time. Arts and crafts do differ slightly from DIYs as there are a lot of them that you can carry out quite quickly as there are millions of fast crafts available to learn online or in books. However, you will find that much like DIY, a lot of arts and crafts projects take a lot of time and patience in order to compete.
Arts and crafts have their own costs, but due to how diverse the hobby is, you are bound to be able to find something of interest that you can afford. For example, if you were to take up painting you would be able to find some inexpensive paints and brushes to use and you would get continuous uses out of these purchases. A lot of fun crafts can be done by simply upcycling things you have lying around the house, so the possibilities are really endless.
The most important thing that you need to consider when choosing between the two is figuring out which of the two excites you most, after all, if you are not passionate about what you are doing, then you won’t enjoy it.
